But the landscape design plays a major factor in directing the eye and can either enhance or distract. This is the first impression a buyer will have of your home.

An appealing landscape tells a Buyer more than this homeowner has a green thumb. It is an indication of the owner’s attention to detail and maintenance not just of the yard but also the home itself. Any Realtor can tell you that numerous sales are lost because a buyer upon driving by a home doesn’t  want to view the inside! Why? Because the first impression of the home was negative.

The long term viability of the landscape is important. It should be “sustainable” and not need excessive maintenance or pest control. It should be planned considering the long term. What will it look like mature? What will the maintenance costs be? Proper plant selection and placement is key to this principle.

As you drive home today slow down as you turn onto your street and really look at each house. How does your home compare to the surrounding properties? Is your yard well maintained and inviting? If you were a Buyer would you stop at the home or just drive on by? It may only be the placement of a few additional plants that could drastically change your home’s curb appeal.
